Trivia Answer: Mole

Mole is one of Mexico’s most celebrated national dishes—a rich, slow-cooked sauce made with a blend of dried chiles, nuts, seeds, spices, and sometimes chocolate. The word mole comes from the Nahuatl word mƍlli, meaning “sauce” or “mix.”

There are dozens of regional varieties, each with its own character and history—from the deep, smoky mole negro of Oaxaca to the slightly sweet mole poblano of Puebla. No two are exactly alike, but every version tells the story of Mexico’s diverse culinary heritage—where Indigenous techniques and Spanish influences blend beautifully in one unforgettable dish.
