TRIVIA TIME

Tropical Fruit Trivia

One of the joys of living in the Riviera Maya is having easy access to fresh, affordable fruit, much of it grown right here on the Yucatán Peninsula. But here’s a fun fact: many of the tropical fruits we know and love today actually came from other parts of the world before finding a home here.

Which one of the following fruits is indigenous to the Riviera Maya?

FIVE FUN THINGS

🎭 Moulin Rouge - The Musical in Playa del Carmen

Step into the bohemian world of Paris at the turn of the 20th century, where love and art collide beneath the red lights of the legendary Moulin Rouge. This spectacular stage adaptation brings to life the story of a young poet who falls for a dazzling cabaret star—an ill-fated romance that unfolds against a backdrop of glittering performances, passionate rivalries, and the eternal search for truth, beauty, freedom, and love.

The production captures the heart of the original tale with breathtaking choreography, vibrant costumes, and music that sweeps from timeless classics to bold new arrangements. It’s an evening where theater, dance, and song intertwine to tell a story as intoxicating as it is tragic.

Trivia Answer: Mamey

Of the fruits listed, only mamey (Pouteria sapota) is indigenous to the Riviera Maya and the greater Yucatán Peninsula. This sweet, creamy fruit with its bright orange flesh has been cultivated here for centuries and remains a staple in traditional drinks and desserts. The others—bananas (Southeast Asia), mangos (South Asia), pineapples (South America), and watermelons (Africa)—are now widely grown and loved across Mexico, but they were all introduced from abroad. Mamey, on the other hand, is truly homegrown.
