🍍 Riviera Maya Insider is working together with PAR - Playa Animal Rescue to help amazing dogs find forever homes. Each week, we will feature a pup who is ready for adoption and eager to join your family.

MEET VANILLA, OUR DOG OF THE WEEK

🐾 No one will be able to love you more than Vanilla. This 9 year old, 19kg, lab mix is made of pure love. Vanilla is an active girl who loves to play and loves to go for walks. Vanilla is spayed, up to date on her shots and parasite free. She has received monthly preventatives each month. If she sounds like just the girl for you, please email [email protected].

Want to help, but can’t adopt? There are plenty of opportunities to support Vanilla and other pets awaiting their forever home. PAR also needs sponsors and volunteers to help with dog walking and charm school. Find out ho w you can help!

FIVE FUN THINGS

🔍️ As you may have noticed, our local news and social media outlets are better at reporting events after they have happened than they are at letting you know about them in advance. 🙄

🎭️ Many people are planning their weekend activities around Carnaval, and one of my top picks goes in that direction. But, if your idea of fun does not include being mashed in together with sweaty, heaving masses there are some other fun events going on that you may not have seen or heard about. I’ll be at several of these events myself! Be sure to say “Hi!” if you see me out and about! 🤣

🎤 Mexican pop artists Jesse & Joy are headlining Carnaval 2025 in Playa del Carmen tonight! If you are only going to brave the crowds to see ONE of the main acts, this should be the one. My kids turned me on to them a few years and I think they are great! Known for hits like Corre and ¡Espacio Sideral!, this Grammy-winning brother and sister duo blends heartfelt lyrics with infectious melodies. Jesse & Joy will be on the main stage set up in the Plaza 28 de Julio and are scheduled to go on at 10PM. Arrive early, grab a good spot, and get ready to experience one of Mexico’s most beloved musical acts under the stars in Playa.

🌶️ For the 9th year running, the Rotary Club of Playa del Carmen Seaside will be presenting the Riviera Maya Chili Cook-Off. The event is hosted annually by Restaurant Latitude 20° in Puerto Aventuras. Tickets are just 400 MXN and 100% of the proceeds go to support Seaside Rotary’s essential community programs like Kicks4Kids and Feeding the Future. Funds raised will also go toward installing water purification systems in public schools and helping us provide more scholarships for local highschool and college students. ☮️ On Saturday March 1, step back in time to the golden era of rock with The Jam Band, where you'll experience the music and stories that made Woodstock '69 and the '70s unforgettable. Get ready for three hours of pure rock energy, featuring hits from Grand Funk, Santana, Canned Heat, The Doors, Joe Cocker, Cream, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Deep Purple, Rolling Stones, Derek and the Dominos, CSN&Y, CCR, Hendrix and more!

Sing, dance, and celebrate the music that shaped a generation. Dress in your best '60s and '70s style to fully immerse yourself in the Woodstock vibes. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind chance to relive the magic of an era! The concert will be held at the Teatro de La Ciudad in Playa del Carmen at 8PM. Tickets available at the door or in advance.

🏆 Be dressed to impress at this year’s Oscar Party hosted by The Admiral Sports Bar in Playa del Carmen. The 97th Academy Awards ceremony will be simulcast LIVE starting at 7PM. Arrive early to fill out your ballots with your predictions for the winners in each category! Prized will be awarded for Best Dressed Man and Best Dressed Woman. The person who most correctly predicts the most winners takes home their own Oscar, presented by The Admiral himself.

This is not just a fun night. It is also a FUNdraiser for Playa Animal Rescue with a portion of the proceeds going to support PAR’s ongoing efforts helping dogs just like Vanilla. Reservations required 📞 +52 984 228 0372 or email [email protected].

🤓 On Tuesday March 4th, come on down to the shore of Akumal Bay and show us how smart you really are! Our friends at Lol Ha Restaurant are hosting the 2025 Akumal Trivia Challenge! Test your knowledge on a variety of topics and compete against other trivia enthusiasts. Tell your friends, form a team, buy your tickets, and get ready to answer some mind-boggling questions. Don't miss out on this fun event - all to benefit the programs at Hekab Be Biblioteca & Activity Center.

Lol Ha will be providing free pizza during the competition for all the competitors and, of course, the bar will be open. The top 3 teams will win dinner for 4 at a local restaurant and bragging rights! Registration is 25 USD or 500 MXN per player and can be paid in advance by clicking on this Eventbrite link or scanning the QR code above to register.
