Trivia Answer: 2012

The ‘Portal Maya’ was officially inaugurated on December 21, 2012, a date chosen to coincide with the end of the Maya Long Count calendar cycle. Designed by sculptor Arturo Tavárez, the 16-meter bronze arch represents renewal, balance, and the spirit of Playa del Carmen. With its human figures, swirling elements, and Maya symbolism, it quickly became the city’s most iconic landmark and the backdrop for countless photos at Parque Fundadores.
