📢 If You Hear Sirens Wailing on Friday—Don’t Be Alarmed!
It’s not a hurricane—it’s a hurricane drill. Yucatan and Quintana Roo will join the Second National Drill 2025 on Friday, September 19 at 12 PM Central Time (1 PM on the Riviera Maya), simulating a major storm to test emergency systems and improve disaster preparedness across the state.
Unlike other parts of Mexico, where the drill will focus on earthquakes, Quintana Roo’s scenario is hurricane-specific, reflecting our real regional risks. Sirens will sound, cell phones will buzz with alerts, and local authorities will mobilize, all part of a coordinated effort to keep residents ready and informed.
This is a good time to refresh evacuation plans, check emergency kits, remind family members what to do and read this for more hurricane preparedness tips!

MEET MARIPILI, OUR DOG OF THE WEEK

🐾 When Maripili was only three weeks old, she was taken away from a very drunk guy who was trying to sell her and her siblings. We think this was the right direction for her life to take. She was bottle fed in foster care until she was old enough to move to the shelter. Maripili is a sweet girl who is one year old now. She is spayed, fully vaccinated and parasite free. She has received all necessary monthly preventatives to keep her healthy. If you are interested in Maripili please send an email to [email protected].
💵 Want to help, but can’t adopt? There are plenty of opportunities to support Maripili and other pets awaiting their forever home. PAR also needs sponsors and volunteers to help with dog walking and charm school. Find out how you can help!

Trivia Answer: Hurricane Wilma
In October 2005, Hurricane Wilma slammed into the Riviera Maya as one of the most intense storms in recent history. It made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane, with sustained winds of about 150 mph. What made Wilma particularly destructive was how long it lingered. Parts of Quintana Roo, including Playa del Carmen, were battered by strong and tropical-storm-force winds for nearly 50 hours. The storm left a lasting mark with damaged resorts, eroded beaches, flooded towns, and weeks without power.
