TRIVIA TIME

Last week we asked, which of the following Quintana Roo hot spots is NOT a “Pueblo Magico”. Isla Mujeres, Tulum, Bacalar, Holbox or Cozumel.

This turned out to be tougher than I had aniticipated. Only 30% of the readers who played along knew that HOLBOX is not among Mexico’s 177 Pueblos Magicos.

Currently there are 4 towns in the state of Quintana Roo that have been awarded the Pueblo Mágico designation by Mexico’s Secretariat of Tourism.

🐾 This is our precious little Carole. She came to us at Christmastime, after being rescued in Cancun along with a friend and her 2 babies. She was starving, and had lost most of her hair as you can see in the picture. Just look at her scruffy loveliness now!

She is spayed, parasite free and fully vaccinated. She is a sweet and loving little lady. The perfect addition to a loving home! For more information about Carole, please email [email protected].

🍷 Winemaker’s Dinner at Wine O’Clock with Jorge Maciel

Tonight, Thursday June 5, Wine O’Clock will host a wine paring dinner featuring the wines of Cava Maciel. Restauratuer, sommelier and our friend Gerson Soriano has invited winemaker Jorge Maciel to bring some of his favorite bottles to share alongside four original dishes from Chef Rene Gamboa.

Cava Maciel is a boutique winery nestled in the Valle de Guadalupe, Baja California, Mexico. Founded in 2009 by self-taught winemaker Jorge Maciel. Jorge’s passion for winemaking ignited after a transformative trip to Italy in 1993. Upon returning to his hometown of Ensenada, he began crafting wines in his parents' garage, guided by the expertise of Enrique Ferro. This humble beginning laid the foundation for Cava Maciel, which officially launched its first commercial vintage in 2009.

Today, Cava Maciel produces approximately 3,700 cases annually, sourcing grapes from select sites in the Valle de Guadalupe, San Vicente, and Ojos Negros. The winery's offerings include monovarietals and blends, each named after celestial bodies, reflecting Maciel's fascination with the cosmos.

This special winemaker’s dinner will be presented this evening, Thursday June 5 at 8 PM. The cost is 950 MXN per person. Reservations must be made in advance via Whatsapp 984 142 3434.

🎻 Culture & Passion: A New Concert Series Debuts at Buzo’s

On Saturday, June 7th at 8 PM, Buzo’s in Playa del Carmen welcomes the first night of Culture & Passion, a brand-new concert series curated by internationally acclaimed guitarist André Krengel and percussionist Rubén Mondragón.

Unlike the high-energy Pirates of Jazz shows, this new experience is all about intimate musical storytelling—a captivating night of emotional connection, quiet virtuosity, and spontaneous artistry. Each edition will feature Krengel in dialogue with a rotating cast of special guests from across Quintana Roo and beyond.

The premiere performance, under the banner of Magic Music Onstage, features an extraordinary musical meeting between Krengel and violinist Sofia Lych, a former first violinist with the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, Grammy Award winner, and collaborator with legends like Monserrat Caballé and Luciano Pavarotti.

Expect a dynamic mix of flamenco, classical, world, and jazz influences woven into a performance that will move you—from soft, soulful notes to wild, fiery bursts of virtuosity. Sit back, listen deeply, and let the music carry you. This is just the beginning of what promises to be one of Playa’s most talked-about music nights.

🎶 Name That Tune: A Musical Test of Two Cities

Puerto Morelos vs. Playa del Carmen—who really knows their music? Find out on Thursday, June 12th at La Sirena’s Rooftop in Puerto Morelos as the two towns face off in a brand-new version of Name That Tune.

This isn't your usual trivia night. Expect lightning-fast rounds with only 3–5 seconds of each song—no puzzles, no clues, just 50 tracks and a battle for musical bragging rights. The fun kicks off at 7:00 PM, and there's no charge to join.

Captains have already been chosen: Dave Goss leads Playa del Carmen, while Piper Madden rallies Puerto Morelos. If teams are uneven, expect a classic schoolyard pick to balance things out.

After the game? Stick around—La Sirena will keep the music going for those who want to dance, mingle, or keep the party rolling.

🐴 Show Jumping Returns to the Riviera Maya!

Horse lovers, mark your calendars! Hípico Riviera Maya in Paamul will host the 6th stage of the 2025 Quintana Roo State Show Jumping Championship on Saturday & Sunday, June 21 & 22. Everyone is welcome. There will be food and drinks for purchase but admission to this exciting equestrian event is free.

This beautiful weekend event brings together around 150 riders competing across a range of jumping categories, from beginner-friendly 40 cm crossrails to thrilling 1.30 m oxers. It’s an incredible chance to witness the athleticism and grace of horses and riders from all over the region in a family-friendly, outdoor setting.
