🎸 Hola, live music lovers of the Riviera Maya! This is the RMI Live Music Lineup for Thursday May 22 through Wednesday May 28.

TRIVIA TIME

🐢 Marine turtle nesting season has returned to the Riviera Maya and other beaches throughout the Mexican Caribbean. Nests are already being recorded in Akumal, Canucn, Isla Mujeres and Cozumel!

Last week, we tested your knowledge of the specific types of turtles that make their nests in this region of Mexico. Here are the results!

🏆️ If you knew that the Kemp’s ridley turtles do not nest on the shores of the Mexican Caribbean, well done! You were right!

You’re unlikely to find Kemp’s ridley turtles (Lepidochelys kempii) nesting or seen in the waters along the Riviera Maya. Here’s why:

Kemp’s ridleys are the rarest and most endangered sea turtle species and have a very restricted nesting range, with the overwhelming majority of nesting occurring in Tamaulipas, Mexico (Gulf of Mexico), particularly at Rancho Nuevo. They are considered a Gulf species and are rarely spotted in the Caribbean waters of Quintana Roo.

In contrast, the Riviera Maya is home to nesting and resident populations of green sea turtles, loggerheads, hawksbills, and occasionally leatherbacks (although leatherbacks are far less common).

🏐 International Beach Volleyball Festival in Puerto Morelos

⛱️ This weekend, May 24–25, Puerto Morelos transforms into a beach volleyball hotspot as the 3rd International Free & Master Beach Volleyball Festival hits the sand. With a record-breaking 118 teams from Mexico, the U.S., Spain, Slovenia, and beyond, this is the largest master's beach volleyball tournament in the country.

Matches will be played across eight courts along the coastline, featuring eight categories—including Open and Mixed 40+—with semifinals and finals wrapping up on Sunday.

Spectators can enjoy high-level competition, a festive beach atmosphere, and a chance to cheer on international and local talent.
