🍍 Riviera Maya Insider is working together with PAR - Playa Animal Rescue to help amazing dogs find forever homes. Each week, we will feature a pup who is ready for adoption and eager to join your family.

MEET CHICA, OUR DOG OF THE WEEK

🐾 Great things come in small packages. Our little Chica is proof. She is a confident, outgoing little dog and is often the first dog to greet visitors to the shelter. Chica is curious about the world around her and loves looking for the next pet coming her way. She gets along really well with other dogs and is up for playtime. Chica is 9 years old and weighs 11kg. She is up to date on her vaccinations, sterilized and parasite free. She has received all her monthly preventatives. If you want to learn more about Chica email [email protected]

Want to help, but can’t adopt? There are plenty of opportunities to support Chica and other pets awaiting their forever home. PAR also needs sponsors and volunteers to help with dog walking and charm school. Find out ho w you can help!

FIVE FUN THINGS

As you may have noticed, our local news and social media outlets are often better at reporting events after they have happened than they are at letting you know about them in advance. So, here are my picks for Five Fun Things you might want to check out this week!

🎶 Are you a music buff? If so, you may want to join DJ Jeff Hammond and his merry crew for a fun night of Name That Tune! It’s a super lively event where you and your team try to guess songs as fast as possible—kind of like pub trivia but all about music! It’s just 50 pesos to play and you get a chance to win some great prizes.

But the best part? It’s also a fundraiser for Roz’s Kitty Kottage, a local cat rescue that does amazing work. Bring a pouch of wet cat food, and you’ll get an extra raffle ticket for the prize draw. Don’t have a team? Don’t worry! Jeff will pair you up with some fun people.

Name that Tune is held in Playa del Carmen every Thursday from 6PM - 9PM at Zitla Playa on Calle 12 between Av. 15 & 20 and every Tuesday, 4PM - 6PM, at La Sirena in Puerto Morelos.

🎨 Looking for a creative and relaxing night out? Paint & Wine at Off The Vine Playacar is the perfect way to unwind with a brush in one hand and a glass of wine in the other. This Friday, March 7th from 7PM - 10PM, you will paint a unique piece inspired by Mary Keane under the guidance of artist Carlos Becerra, all in a cozy and welcoming setting.

The cost is 700 MXN per person. All painting materials are included as well as step-by-step instruction from Carlos Becerra, two glasses of wine and a gourmet snack and Off the Vine’s famous laid-back atmosphere—the perfect place to enjoy an evening with friends or meet new people

🦐 This weekend, on March 8-9, Bacalar will host the 4th Festival Gastronomico del Caribe Mexicano. This event celebrates the ingredients and culinary traditions of the region, offering attendees a chance to explore diverse flavors and cooking techniques unique to the Mexican Caribbean. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Bacalar's stunning lagoon, the festival promises a vibrant atmosphere where local chefs and food enthusiasts come together.

Visitors can expect a variety of activities, including cooking demonstrations, tastings, and cultural performances, all designed to showcase the area's gastronomic heritage. The event will run from 4PM until 10PM in the Parque General Ángel Remigio Rosado.

Entry to the festival is free. Purchase your “Gastropesos” at the entrance to pay for the tastings at each stand. After enjoying last year’s festival, I know this event is worth the trip. Look for us there this weekend!

🍷 If you love wine as much as I do, you won’t want to miss this wine tasting and food pairing event at La Vinatería de Playa this Saturday, March 9th at 8PM!

For just 450 MXN per person, you’ll get to taste two incredible wines—Gran Enemigo Gualtallary 2021 and Gran Altotinto Cabernet Sauvignon.

The evening includes a welcome drink to kick things off, a guided tasting and expertly paired food. It’s the perfect chance to sip, savor and chat with fellow wine lovers in a relaxed and fun setting.

🎪 This Sunday, March 9, the Feria Trendy Market returns to Puerto Aventuras with its special Carnaval Edition, bringing a festive evening of shopping, entertainment, and community vibes to the marina’s kiosk/bandstand from 5PM - 9PM. This popular monthly market showcases a variety of local vendors offering everything from handmade jewelry, artisanal crafts, and eco-friendly products to unique fashion pieces, home décor, and gourmet treats.

Shoppers can browse stalls filled with organic skincare products, handmade textiles, and one-of-a-kind accessories, all while enjoying the lively Carnaval-inspired atmosphere. Whether you're looking for a special gift, a delicious snack, or just a fun night out, Feria Trendy Market is the place to be! ✍️ For the last few weeks, we have been asking for your vote for your favorite Live Music Venue in Playa del Carmen. Well, the results are in and we have an indisputable winner.

I reached out to a few people who had voted for this particular spot to ask them WHY this place got their vote. The replies were almost all the same.

The win didn’t come from having the best line up of performers. Most of the bands who play here also play in lots of other venues around town.

The win didn’t come from the size of the facility. There are far better and more spacious dance floors in Playa. There is no ocean view here. No sand beneath your feet.

The win came down to one thing and one thing only. The host. Ale has created an atmosphere and an experience that is unparalleled in Playa. She is onsite, all the time, engaging with her customers who she treats like family. She is ALIVE and the success of her place comes down to her genuine love for every single person who comes through her door.
